"Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is short sighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble. for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." Christian View of Life and Living a. Bible reality shock #1. What this means is that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are ALL* working together for the good of the dedicated Christian {"all that will live godly in Christ Jesus"}, and actively "without variation or shadow of turning" right now in this world. "And we know that ALL* things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28) b. Bible reality shock #2. God deals with His own on a need basis, not on a want basis. The world motivates you according to what you deserve to satisfy your wants, or that they can lead you to think are the community needs of you and your neighbors. "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." (Romans 12:2) c. Bible reality shock #3. God chastises only those He loves, so you are fortunate to recognize chastisement as the love of God for a child that is His own. Only a child of God gets this training toward righteousness. Take the example of Jesus, the real Jesus of the Bible and of the sermon on the mount. "Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful, nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it." (Hebrews 12:3) Introduction 1. Psalm 37 Part I. In His Own Mind and Heart God Separates the Minority Righteous from the Majority Wicked. 2. Psalm 37 Part II. Introduction to a Christian Philosophy of Life and Living. 3. A Bible Based Philosophy of Life and Living Based on the Wicked versus the Righteous. 4. Messages for the Masses. 5. Needs versus Wants. "O You of little faith" (Matthew 6:30) and "For your Heavenly Father knows that you have the need of all these things." (Matthew 6:32b) How can you tell the difference between the "of the world" and "of the Father"? Or the difference for a Christian in being in the world without being of the world. One key to understanding the difference is by way of the Bible subjects of needs versus wants. 6. Psalm 23: "The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want." 7. GNC for Guidance, Navigation, and Control, a short on God's Special Grace and Guidance for the serious Christian. 8. Moore City: Have you Seen Anything Like It? "Has anything like this happened in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?" (Joel 1:2b) 9. "...And the Called According to His Purpose." 10. Theologians and Preachers struggle for adequate Bible words to describe what happens in the Christian life--initially, with increased Christlikeness, and finally at the Second Coming of Christ complete redemption. Peter, the fisherman and leading original disciple of Christ, did not have that trouble. He just told it as it was and is! 11. 10C's of the Bible Christian, "The Cross and the Comforter" |
