It seems strange to hear the sounds that a puny and single human soul can bless the Great God of the Universe, but it is so as given in Psalm 103, perhaps you have never thought of this? "A Psalm of David. Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's. The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed. He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel. The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever. He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust. As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more. But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children; To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them. The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all. Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word. Bless ye the LORD, all ye his hosts; ye ministers of his, that do his pleasure. Bless the LORD, all his works in all places of his dominion: bless the LORD, O my soul." (Psalm 103) |

1. "A Psalm of David", King David biographical brief: warrior, musician, shepherd, national hero, court singer, military leader and King. 2. "The LORD", in all caps refers to God the Father, the Lord of all the Universe and Creator of all. It implies in the total context of the 66 books of the Bible that He is both the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ and the "Abba"-Father of all those who trust and believe. 3. "Bless the LORD", it seems strange that puny human beings can bless the Almighty Lord God of the Universe, but it is in the Wisdom of the Ages Book of 66 books, which also happens to be the infallible Word of God. It is divine in origin, absolute in authority, sufficient for all that man needs to know, alive and dynamic speaking to the human soul when read, self-interpretative according to the ASPI version of the Bible, and high fidelity in communication. 4. "Bless the LORD, O My Soul, and all that is within me", no doubt David the shepherd lad wrote and sung it while attending the sheep out in the hills by night. The Soul for any Human Soul sounds inwardly very inclusive, but in the nature of emotional music and meaning, David and the Spirit through David want to be totally all-inclusive with "all that is within me" blesses the LORD God. This is in song and psalm, the deeply felt expression of a human soul that magnifies and blesses God, it is a human spirit that is contagious. It reminds one of how Jesus summarized the 10 commands by quoting from Deuteronomy 6:5: {during the times of David called the united kingdom, the new nation had the books of the Pentateuch already--Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, and Deuteronomy, Joshua, and Judges, I Samuel and II Samuel, at least. And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. (Deut 6:5) No doubt as David sat out there in the hills watching over the sheep by night, and sad "Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, he had in the memory of his mind, this all heart, soul, and might. When Jesus quoted it He changed it to "heart, mind, and soul". 5. "and forget not all His benefits", the benefits of living like David where he wanted all that was in his life to BLESS the LORD God. David sung at night across the silent hills reminding first of all his soul to bless God, then reminding all that was within him not to forget the benefits from LORD God! (Psa 103:3-7) 6. If you will learn by example, spirit, and words how your human soul can first BLESS the LORD God, then comprehend the personal and community benefits of trusting God, then you are in good shape for learning more about what the real LORD God is like in character. {Surely you have heard a lot of false rumors, and you don't even remember where they came from, but exchange those rumors for a little Bible realities about God.} (Psa 103:8-13) 7. A Proper perspective (Wisdom and Respect) between LORD God and Man, the Crown of Creation, and the Welfare of his soul. |
