Progress Chart for The Prophet Messiah 1. Introduction, the Table of quotes abut the Prophet Messiah from the OT as found in the New Testament. 2. The Prophet Messiah and the Holy Spirit. 3. Prophet Messiah and The Cross. 4. The Prophet Messiah and Restoration of all things, the Second Coming. 5. The Prophet Messiah as the Seed of the New Covenant. 6. "The Holy One", "The Just", and the "Prince of Life". In Peter's second sermon after the Ascension of Jesus, besides references to Jesus as the Prophet Messiah, and with OT quotes, he uses the three phrases above for the Lord Jesus Christ--"The Holy One", "The Just", and the "Prince of Life"; and we naturally ask the question as to from whence did these three names for Jesus come? The answer for our continuing research in the total Bible on the subject and name for the Lord Jesus Christ, including how we have come in Christianity today to settle primarily on "Lord Jesus Christ" in the NT, must lead us back to the OT in searches for those names. Previously in this series we have used OT quotes in the NT for references, but also there are many references from the OT not full quotes. |
THE NAME Above All Names The Bible makes it abundantly clear that the name of "Jesus" is the name above all names. "Therefore God has highly exalted Him and given Him a name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (Philippians 2:9) Some may think that "Jesus" was only the name given by Joseph and Mary at birth; not so, that NAME came straight from God in heaven through "an angel of the Lord", saying, "...and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins".
